On May 11, 2022, a debate was held on the topic: “Is it possible to resist corruption.”
The debate was organized by the head of the Debate Club “Lawyer,” the teacher of legal disciplines Mausymbekova A.Z. Members of the debate club took part in the competition. The most interesting British format of the game was used, in accordance with which the participants adhere to the style of conducting a reasoned dispute adopted in the oldest representative institution in the world – the UK Parliament. According to the model adopted in the British Parliament, two government teams and two opposition teams, consisting of two speakers each, had to reasonably convince the jury of their correctness.
The problem of finding methods to combat corruption, coming from the theme proposed to the teams: “Is it possible to resist corruption,” defined the two main models of argument presented by the teams.
During the debate, it was noted that this method can bring short-term positive results, but is aimed not at identifying the causes of corruption crime, but at combating its consequences.
The second model of argumentation defines the prevention of corruption offenses among the population by increasing the level of its legal culture, legal consciousness and integrity as the most important method aimed at identifying and preventing precisely the root causes of corruption crime. As was justified by the debaters, this method is less radical than the previous one and, as a result, it may not produce quick tangible results. However, it is the increase in the legal culture of the population and, especially, the legal education of young people that is aimed at the long term and ultimately gives great positive results in the anti-corruption process.
All participants in the debate showed high erudition, correctly presented their arguments.
Based on the results of the debate, the competent jury summed up:
1st place – Polybium team
2nd place – Domitius team
3rd place – the team “Jurists”
Nomination “Best Speaker” – Tatarchenkova Anita, student of the group P-319
In addition, the diploma for “Fair refereeing” was awarded to the chairman of the jury: chairman of the debate club “Veritas” of Pavlodar Pedagogical University Alimov N.A.
The organizers of the debate tournament hope to continue the tradition of holding such events among the studying youth aimed at increasing the level of legal consciousness, improving the methods of legal education, popularizing and introducing the principles of integrity and legal culture among the population.
